Obituary of Marjorie “Margie” Jane Garcia

     Marjorie “Margie” Jane Garcia passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, she lived 88 wonderful years.  Margie moved to Cameron Park in November 2014 with her husband, Robert “Bob” to be close and enjoy their golden years with their daughter and son in law Mary and Steve Fulmer. Margie was born October 7th, 1934, in Manteca, CA, to William and Mary Silveira, she had three sisters, Marie, Loraine and Alice.

     Margie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend to all she knew.  She was an excellent student and athlete at Cupertino Grammar School where she later went on to become a school secretary for the principal Sam Lawson, her former principal and mentor.  Margie would meet the love of her life Bob here and continue their love story through high school at Fremont High in Sunnyvale. Margie was a softball pitcher for Fremont High ladies’ softball and participated in many clubs on campus.  Margie and Bob would remain a couple throughout high school and Bobs’ time in the service before marrying in 1956, they were married 60 years until Bob passed in 2016.

     Margie worked alongside her husband Bob and parents William and Mary as business owners in their fruit stand in Cupertino.  She spent the next few years raising her young family and playing what became her favorite sport to play, golf. She met many lifelong friends through golf, a sport she played every Sunday with her beloved Bob.  She and Bob shared a passion for golf that eventually founded a group of golfing couples called “The Weekend Swingers”. These golfers became a group of lifelong friends that golfed monthly together and played golf on courses throughout the west for over 20 years.

     She belonged to many Ladies golf groups in the Monterey and Santa Cruz area where her and Bob relocated in 1978 when they built a home in Corralitos and continued to see their children through high school and college.  She began working for the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs’ Office in 1980 where she worked in the civil department until she retired in 2000.  She was a sports fan her whole life who enjoyed rooting for her favorite Bay Area teams, 49ers, Giants and Warriors.  

     Margie’s first love was her family, especially kids and grandkids.  She followed all their sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader!  In her later years she followed her youngest grandchild, Shea, throughout the west to softball tournaments even seeing her play locally at Sac State while on softball scholarship at Portland State.  

     Margie was a self-taught baker, known especially for her many cookie recipes - chocolate chip of course!  Her amazing recipes were compiled in a family cookbook and are still made today at her daughters’ restaurant.  Margie was a great hostess of parties especially her annual tree trimming parties.  She made all types of food and was happiest when seeing her family and friends enjoy meals together. Margie was truly a renaissance woman with a generous soul that made everyone in her presence feel loved.

     Margie was preceded in death by parents William and Mary Silveira, her husband, Bob and her sister Marie.  She is survived by her three children, Scott and (Gail) Garcia, Randy and (Pilar) Garcia and Mary and (Steve) Fulmer, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was beloved by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

     Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass with a reception to follow on Monday July 31, 2023, beginning at noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3111 Tierra de Dios Drive El Dorado Hills, CA.
