It's been two and 1/2 years since my dear friend, Rosemary, died. She sent me a Christmas card saying that the card would be the last one I would ever get from her because she had inoperable pancreatic cancer. I almost fell out of my chair when I read that. I tried to find her phone number and could not. I emailed her and asked her for her phone number, but she did not respond. I finally sent her a Christmas card back, expressing my sorrow that she would be leaving the lives of those who knew and loved her. While she and I worked together at Menlo College in Menlo Park for 20 years, I said to her in the card, as I had told her many times before, that she was the smartest, most competent secretary I had ever worked with. Her organizational skills and intellect far surpassed the men she worked for over the years. She got along with everybody, yet she knew when someone may have done something wrong and expressed it to me. Rosemary was an excellent dancer, and her husband, Rudy, and she danced everywhere they could, including aboard cruise ships, wearing a beautiful red ball gown that I gave her that once belonged to my aunt. Rudy also gave us dancing lessons in their garage, and he was as fun to be with as she was. I have fond, happy memories of them both and consider myself truly lucky to have had them in my life for so long.

Rosemary (Rose) was one of my mother Terri’s nearest and dearest friends until she passed in 2016. They met as apartment neighbors in the Bay Area. They were pregnant with their first and second children probably not by accident! My earliest memories from age 4 are filled with wonderful times at her home playing with Karlyn while our mother’s gabbed for hours. There were birthday parties and in later years Rose hosted many sleep overs and swim dates. With a smile on her face, a perfect shade of red lipstick and a bright sunny disposition, Rose was kind and generous to all who knew her. For more than 30 years Rose and my mother stayed in touch through letters and later cassette tapes as their lives took them along different paths. She was a loyal friend and loved by many.

Rosemary has been in my life as long as I remember. What a wonderful woman who I will also remember as joyful and sweet, and dancing!!! Because of my life long friendship with Kim, Rosemary was there for many firsts: first sleepover, first swim, first sugar cereal, so many more.
I will miss you Rosemary, but know you are dancing!
