Obituary of GEORGE WILLIAM LOCKWOOD

Carpooling is preferred" ** George William Lockwood, age 66, passed away at his home in El Dorado, surrounded by his family after a long struggle with cancer, on Monday December 25th 2017. He was born in Maryland on March 7th 1951 to Burton Graf Lockwood and Helen Marie (Auvil) Lockwood. George spent his childhood in Maryland until his family moved to Long Beach California. George attended California State University, Long Beach where he was an avid rower and member of the CSU Long Beach rowing team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, major Ocean Engineering in 1975 and achieved his Master of Science in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento in 1993. George was a registered civil engineer and worked for the State of California Water Resource Control Board for nearly 25 years. In 1971 George participated in the World Games European Championship in Denmark as the second seat in an eight boat crew. On January 21st 1978 he married Claudia Schneider; they had three children, and moved to El Dorado California in 1988 where he lived the remainder of his life. George participated in Boy Scouts as a young boy and was a troop leader for many years. George was gentle, patient, and very loving. He was an advocate for all animals, including frogs and spiders, and donated regularly to the local animal rescues. George truly lived life to the fullest. His hobbies included making people laugh, singing silly songs, enjoying the outdoors by hiking and camping, and cooking delicious meals made fresh from his garden at home. While at home George was delighted participating in family games, watching classic cheesy sci-fi movies, and caring for his personal compost worm farm. On January 9th 2016, George married Nadine Langley, and is survived by his loving spouse. George is survived by his loving ex-wife, Claudia Schneider, his beloved sons David and Jonathan Lockwood, beloved daughter Samantha Lockwood, and two young grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in George’s name to any local animal rescue in your area or Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode at 530-642-2287. George’s memory and love will always be carried in our hearts, and in those hearts of the many people he befriended.
