Obituary of RICHARD FRANCIS SMITH

Richard Francis Smith

November 18, 1941 – June 17, 2023

Richard Francis Smith passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Placerville, CA at the age of 81. He was born on November 18, 1941, in Stockton, CA and raised in Stockton by his parents Francis Marion Smith and Rosemary Frances Egan. Richard was the oldest of three children. His sister Barbara Ellen Berry and brother Bernard Eugene Smith preceded him in death. Richard was the beloved husband of Darleen Marie Smith for 42 years and later Sandi McGinnis-Smith for 17 years. Darleen passed away in 2005 and Sandi in 2023.

Richard was the loving father of three sons, Rick Smith and his wife Marilie of Spanish Springs, Nevada, Bobby Smith and his wife Gina of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Tommy Smith who sadly passed away in 2006. Richard was also the loving Papa to Cassie, Stevie, Nicole, Jordan, Katelynn, Brandon, Danielle, Joey and Christian. He was the great grandfather to Amelia, Gwen, Lucas, Olivia, Lily, Connor, Eli, Bradley, Emily, Carson, Avalynn and Araeya. Richard was also the stepfather to Bobby McGinnis and Lori Sweeden and step-grandfather to their children Kayla, Kyle, Carson, Cameron and Casey.

Richard and Darleen moved from Stockton to Placerville, CA in 1976 with their boys to a small rural area known as Swansboro. Shortly thereafter, Richard started a local delivery service business of automotive parts serving much of El Dorado County. Richard had a great deal of passion and dedication to his work and many times worked long hours to make sure his clients were taken care of. If your car needed a part between the years of 1979 and 2014, chances are it was on Rich’s truck.

Richard would do anything for his family and beyond. His dedication and support to his family and friends never wavered. He was always available if you were looking for that oddball bolt, tool, or tow, he never hesitated to give a helping-hand. Richard enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching baseball, playing horseshoes, fishing, Bingo, camping, playing the piano and the Accordion. Richard also enjoyed a beer or 2…….and was always up for an impromptu party or get together. Richard enjoyed life and was always ready to have fun.

Prior to his passing Richard requested that you remember him by visiting that special place; your church, favorite fishing hole, camping spot, baseball game or maybe just where you sit and reflect on the good times you had with Richard.
