Obituary for Phyllis Keever Banks Peck
Phyllis (Phyz) Banks Peck, 91, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2021, at Redwood Senior Care where she had been in hospice for 2 months. She was born on December 26, 1929, to Ralph and Lelia Keever of Lebanon, KS. While she was an infant her parents moved with her to Escalon, CA. At approximately 8 years old, her parents moved to Carmichael, CA, where she lived until she married. She has a younger brother, David Keever - surviving, and younger sister, Rosemary - deceased. Phyllis graduated from San Juan High School in Citrus Heights and attended Sacramento City College.
Phyllis was very active in her church youth group and had a love of music and folk dancing. She met Homer Banks, Jr., at a folk dance and they married in January of 1950. Together they had two daughters, Kristee and Candice. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren (Erika Cannon, Jessica Remmert, Mark Hinton, Samuel Buerer, AJ Buerer and Joy Craven) and 6 great-grandchildren (Konor and Eryx Cannon, Xander and Ezra Remmert, and Ilaria and Lorenzo Hinton).
Homer and Phyllis were active in Ski-Patrol and autocross/gymkhana/rallies in the sixties, square dancing (Apple Jacks and Jills), bowling leagues, sailing, and RV travel.
In the late 1980s they established a Christmas Tree farm on 20 acres near Placerville, CA. Phyllis continued after Homers death in 1998 to run the Tree farm until she married Bill in 2001.
After Homer passed away, Phyllis met Bill Peck and they became acquainted at the local square dance club. They married in 2001 and she has three step daughters from Bills family: Carol Peck, Yvonne Scudero and their deceased, beloved sister Linda Peck. Bill and Phyllis were involved in square dancing until Phyllis leg injury at 84 limited her mobility and Barbershop music with the Gold Rush Chorus until Bills hearing became too limited. Phyllis also kept active in her TOPS and Bunco groups until she quarantined for Covid. She was homebound until she was transferred to the Marshall Hospital in May, 2021, where she received care for infection and dementia. She was subsequently moved to Redwood Senior Care on May 25 where the resident caregivers and hospice provided loving care until she passed away on July 30 this year.
Services were held on Aug 20th, 2021 at the Federated Church in Placerville.
