Obituary of Hazel Margaret Masciovecchio

Hazel Margaret Reed/Masciovecchio passed away May 2, 2021 at the age of 85. Born in London, England May 26, 1935. She came to the United States in the early fifties and eventually became a citizen Sept 5, 1989 as she made her home in California. Hazel had a very eventful life, living through the Blitz in London, enduring WWII and the aftereffects, then moving around the world as a military wife, living in Germany, Texas, New York and Nevada. She was a strong person and survivor in many ways. Hazel had two husbands, Don Reed who she met in postwar England and was father of her children and Al Masciovecchio who she met after Don’s passing. Both of whom she outlived. Hazel was an extremely caring person, feeling deeply about the troubles of others. She always said, “Be kind to others as you do not know what they may have been through in their lives.” Hazel was the loving mother of three, Linda, Don and Kate and grandmother to Robyn, Roselynn and Joe. She also had a special bond with her daughter -in-law Shaunna . Hazel’s sisters and their families moved to Australia and she did manage to visit them twice . She was also thrilled to meet her new inlaws from India on their visit to granddaughter Robyn and husband Ankit. Hazel was vivacious, energetic, laughed a lot, even at herself and would have danced every day of her life if she could have. Hazel loved animals, especially dogs. She often said if she were rich, she would own a big piece of property where any animal that needed a home could come and be cared for. Hazel eventually became a vegetarian. Hazel loved her family, books, politics and history, was a free thinker and felt strongly about the need to help others. Once she helped nurse a mother of a young family from her church who was dying of cancer so the father could work to support them and give him some respite. Her last wishes included a desire to sponsor two children for corrective surgery through “Operation Smile.” Hazel was a remarkable person and complained very little during her last years when she was unwell. She considered herself lucky to have people she loved around her. Hazel will be very much missed by her family and those she came in contact with throughout her life. She was definitely one of a kind. There will be a Memorial Mass for her on June 2nd, 2021 at 12pm at the St Patrick Catholic Church in Placerville, CA.
