Lois Martin

Obituary of Lois Melba Martin

Lois was the daughter of LeRoy and Jewell Jones. Born in Big Spring, Texas, she was the oldest of four siblings. Her family moved to California in the 1940’s, where she met her future husband Ken Martin on Valentine’s Day in 1946 in Gridley. They married in July 1947. After living in the north valley area, Boonville and the Sacramento valley, Lois and Ken moved to Camino in 1966 and finished raising their five children: Keith Martin, Terryl Martin (deceased in 1971), Gary Martin (deceased in 2021), Scott Martin and Helen Martin (Waugh). Lois and Ken had 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Jones and Carolyn Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was a wife and mother first and foremost, but worked at many jobs throughout her life. From packing rations at the old Fruit Growers building in Placerville during Vietnam to working quality control at Certainteed Pipe plant in the late 1970’s. Her last career was recorder-clerk for First American Title Company in Fairfield. After almost 49 years of marriage, she lost her husband Ken in 1996, but continued to work until 2006, then retired to Pollock Pines. Lois loved her family, animals, nature, yearly trips to the coast, music and Bluegrass festivals, and was an artist who took time every month to paint, which she enjoyed greatly. Plus everyone waited in anticipation each fall for the new batch of applebutter she made. As we mourn the loss of our beloved Mother, we also rejoice for the 91 years of love, comfort and friendship she gave to all. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts and our memories. Our deepest appreciation to Snowline Hospice of El Dorado County.
