Obituary of CHERYL LYNN COTHRAN

Cheryl Lynn Cothran (Hanson) passed away in Placerville on June 6, 2020 at the age of 61. Cheryl had been courageously fighting cancer for a year and a half. Cheryl was born in Orange, California to David and Lois Cothran on July 1, 1958. Cheryl was raised in Tustin, CA and graduated from Tustin High School in 1976. Cheryl’s career was in public education, where she spent 15 years working at several El Dorado County schools, including Blue Oak and Gold Oak Elementary, and Pleasant Valley and Markham Middle Schools. Back then, “Mrs. Hanson” was often the first friendly face students, staff and visitors would see in the front office, as her positions included school nurse, school secretary and principal’s secretary. Cheryl spent another 10 years in public education in Southern and Central California, eventually retiring in San Luis Obispo. Cheryl is lovingly remembered by former husband and friend Curt Hanson; her son Jake and daughter in-law Amy Hanson; her son Ryan and daughter in-law and Casey Hanson; her brother David and sister in-law Leslie Cothran; her brother Charlie and sister in-law Wilma Cothran; her sister Donna and brother in-law Tom Jones; her nieces Erin, Kelly, Lindsey, Katy, Pam, Amanda and Natalya; her nephews Nat and Mick; her grandchildren Leo, Eli, Matilda and Margaret; her incredible support network of extended family and adoring friends; and her dog Woodson. Cheryl is predeceased by her mother Lois; her father David; and her sister Dorothy. Cheryl was a beach girl through and through, and also enjoyed hiking, road trips, camping, working on home improvement projects and tending her garden of citrus, succulents, avocados and vegetables.
