Marvin was a good guy. He had some issues that lead to a lot of tragedy in his life, but inside he wanted others to be happy. When we met back in 2002, he was living with his Dad, Doug, in a duplex on Spring Street in Placerville and working at Flyers gas station. Just having moved out on my own at 18, I'd sometimes hang out all night as he worked the night shift, keeping him company. There was a short time that he couldn't drive, so I would pick him up at 6:00 in the morning and take him home from work.
I remember one time our friends Gil and Chip met up at his house and brought a couple of Xboxes, hooked them up to a couple of TVs and got drunk while playing Halo all night. We had some good times.
But, as anyone who knows him knows, he got into some bad stuff and we drifted apart. We met up again here and there a couple of years later but didn't really keep in touch. I saw his mental state had deteriorated and he was walking with a pretty bad hunch. Looked like he had a tough time of things. I can't find anywhere how he died, but from everything I've gathered and from a couple of experiences I had with him when things started going pretty steeply downhill, I get the idea it was self inflicted. Hard to think about. He really did have a good heart, but never truly learned how to use it.
