ROY PROUD

Obituary of ROY JOHN PROUD

On Wednesday, 9-5-2018, Roy Proud died at age 66, ending a well-lived life full of love, laughter, kindness and a little bit of ice cream. Roy was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Roy was born in Long Beach, Ca. to Dale and Wilma Proud. He graduated from Jordan High school and remained life-long friends with many of his classmates. Roy went on to pound the pavement for many years as a letter carrier in Long Beach. In 1984, he began his career with Federal Express in Huntington Beach, transferring to the Sacramento area in 1992, where he worked until he retired in 2014. In October 1985, he married Barbara Katz. They raised 2 daughters, Rachel and Allison. Roy was involved and supported his daughters' passions. He attended countless ballet performances for both girls, as well as score keeping for Allison's softball teams. Roy was well-known for his passion and knowledge about a variety of sports. At the top of the list was his love for baseball, specifically his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. It wasn't unusual for a family vacation to be planned around seeing the Dodgers in another state or venue. His daughters are following in his footsteps as passionate, knowledgeable Dodger fans. He was an avid bowler, having started out working at a bowling alley in North Long Beach at a young age. He continued to bowl in Folsom, Ca. for many years. Roy had a special touch with animals. His family often joked that no matter who picked out and brought home a new cat or dog, these new additions always gravitated to him as their favorite human. We believe they could always sense his kind spirit. Roy loved the beach. Growing up in Southern California, his two favorites were Crystal Cove and Scotsman's Cove in Laguna Beach. The perfect ending to a beach day was topping it off with a pint of his favorite ice cream, Baskin Robbins Chocolate Chip. Talks with Roy about Jesus, religion and the after-life were always interesting and thought-provoking. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and pain free. He will be fiercely missed, always remembered and loved by those that his life touched. Roy was preceded in death by his father, Dale, his mother, Wilma and brother, Steven. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughters Rachel Proud and Allison Proud, his brother Mike (Jane), niece Sabrina (Ezra) (Zoe), cousins Mary Ann (Reed) and Ron Walkington, sisters-in-law Laurie (Gary), Julie (Loreto), Jennifer Wells and nephews Sean, Daniel and Michael. If you so desire, the family is asking that any donations be made to Kershaw's Challenge, Foothill Dog Rescue, Front Street Animal Shelter or the Crystal Cove Conservancy. Celebrations of Roy's life will be held in Shingle Springs, Ca. and Lakewood, Ca.
