July 31, 1938 - January 30, 2018
January 30, 2018 our beloved free spirited son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many transitioned from our earth to his heavenly home.
Everyone who met Gary "Butch" "Papa" loved him instantly. His charismatic good looks, charm and unique humor lit up a room. You could often catch him singing a gospel hymn or a catchy country tune such as "Daddy sang bass". An avid protector of children made him the favorite dad of the neighborhood. The second his eyes met yours you were forever blessed with a nickname. He had a great love of fishing, motor cycle racing of which he endeavored to his great love of fast food especially KFC. His little sister Linda Taylor was his best friend and confidant. His greatest legacy is his strength, spontaneity and great humor he blessed his family with.
Born in Oklahoma to Raymond Herbert Blagg and Lou Bell Garner. Eventually moving to Lamont California where he was raised. He is survived by his brother Ron Blagg and his wife Lenda Sue of Texas, Sister Linda Taylor of Bakersfield. Married in April 1956 to Joan Edith Koshenina and had five children Barbara Bridwell married to Jack "Buford" Bridwell, Brenda McKenzie married to Donald "Mac" McKenzie, Gary Ray Blagg Jr married to Darcy Blagg, Pamela Gay Havens and Tammy Faye Blagg who was stillborn. His second marriage he had a daughter Brandi Blagg and a stepson Scott Blagg who recently stated that dad taught him how to be a man.
Gary adored his grandchildren Misty Elmore, Kristy Guerini, Anna Wilson, Melissa Raney, Mary Shackelford, Erin Wall, Shaun Blagg, Tyler Havens, Brendon Blagg, Aubrieane Blagg and Daniel Blagg. His daughter Tammy Faye and his granddaughter Jennifer Linn Havens (January 19, 1981 - January 23, 1981) went to heaven before their Dad and Papa and will welcome him and show him around his heavenly home. His eyes would always light up hearing all the stories of his 15 great grandchildren's talents and escapades that were precious to his heart. Jacob, Payton, Logan, Ethan, Hailey Jo, Kenzie, Leila, JoeAnna, Sienna, Oliver, Ava, Beck, Lilah, Milo and Adelaide.
He had four nieces Rhonda Thompson, Bilenda Smith, Kelly DiLoretto and Jerrilyn Brown. He had one nephew Bradley Johnson. Dad was very blessed with his friend Rocky Roberts who visited with him to lift his spirits in his last few weeks on earth.
Until we see you again, your deep strength and love of life will be forever etched in our hearts and souls. Your love of life will live on through the beautiful family you created and left on earth.
