Obituary of DAVID ALAN RICH
There is a large hole in the community due to the passing of David Rich. David was born in Martinez, CA to Wilbur “Joe” Rich and Sarah Mercurio Rich. He was active in the local Boy Scout Troops 184 and 382. When he was not taking “his boys” camping, he was active in Community Theatre, the establishing of the Martinez Historical Society and other ways of giving back to the community of which he was so proud.
In 1983, his job as a telecommunications engineer took him to Sacramento, which allowed him to be closer to his parents who by this time had moved to South Lake Tahoe. Within the year of moving to his new home in Pollock Pines, he met a San Joaquin County girl, Karen Kelley and they were married in 1985. Once they were settled in Pollock Pines and Placerville, he returned to being active in Boy Scouting for El Dorado County serving as the District Advancement Chairman, District Chairman and other District/Council positions. He would later be involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when their son Sean became part of the program.
Later David was active with the Pollock Pines School District, serving on the Board of Trustees. During this time the board hired a new superintendent and built a new school, Emigrant Trail. His other activity in Pollock Pines was the Pollock Pines-Camino Community Roundtable, which later became the Pollock Pines-Camino Community Center.
More recently, David’s time has been spent with the Knights of Columbus, being part of Councils 6322 (Placerville) and 1849(Jackson) in California as well as serving as the District Deputy for Districts 7 and 8. He is survived by his wife Karen, son Sean, and daughter Tiffany, as well as cousins and many loyal friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for November 28th with a Rosary at 10:30am followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 am at St. Patrick’s Church in Placerville, 3109 Sacramento Street.
