Obituary of Sylvia Adeline Strutz

1930 — 2017 Sylvia Adeline Strutz passed peacefully on the morning of May 25, 2017, at the age of 86. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold A Strutz, Jr. (Hal); and their seven children, William, Kenneth, Cynthia, James, Christopher, Thomas, and Carol. She was preceded into heaven by their son Stephen. Sylvia was the youngest of eight children, born Dec 2, 1930, in Pasco, WA, to Dennis and Rose Walker. She graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Seattle, WA in 1948, and married Harold on May 10, 1949. Sylvia and Hal had a goal to have a very large family of 12, but they chose to stop at 8 children, 6 boys and 2 girls. A legacy of 44 grand- and great-grandchildren is one of the many joys and gifts that were part of her life. Sylvia and Hal lived in Saudi Arabia for a quarter of their marriage, and travelled the world together. There were few places on the globe they did not see. Sylvia said often that they travelled before they retired, so that they would have the heath and energy to do so. Thankfully, she had this foresight as she battled Parkinson’s for the last 20 years of her life. Throughout her life, Sylvia was a strong, intelligent and loving woman not to mention a master bread maker ever. Her greatest love was her family, and she cared for them not only physically but also emotionally, and guided them spiritually. While she lived in many places, the one thing that was a constant was her participation in the local church. She was active in the rosary prayer group, choir, and women’s ministries helping other parishioners and causes. While in Saudi Arabia, she gained many friends from all over the world learning different cultures and how to prepare many foods which they loved sharing with friends and family stateside. During their travels they were lucky to visit these friends in their native country gaining even more insight into the differing ways of the world. A mass will be held in her honor July 14th at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3115 Tierra de Dios Dr, El Dorado Hills, California 95762. A light meal will follow in the Social Center.
