Obituary of Shirley Ann Gyorgy
Surrounded by her loving family, Shirley Ann Gyorgy passed away at Marshall Hospital on May 12 after a long illness.
Shirley was born in San Francisco on March 8, 1943 to Katherine and William Prietzel. She was raised in the City, and in Millbrae Calif. She graduated from Capuchino High School in San Bruno in 1961. In 1964 she married her life partner, Bill Gyorgy. June 27, 2017 would have been their 54th wedding anniversary. In 1974 the Gyorgy family moved to El Dorado County, by then composed of Shirley, Bill, and four sons. A "City girl" Shirley soon became a "Country Mom", shepherding her boys through 4H activities including the care and feeding of cattle, sheep, goats, swine and poultry. Shirley was always ready to help those in need. She regularly volunteered at Snowline Hospice Thrift Store, and often contributed to charities such as the Shriners Childrens Hospital Fund, Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army, and the Saint Jude Childrens Hospital.
Shirley and Bill, after retirement, enjoyed traveling all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central and South America. She especially enjoyed Hawaii and Alaska, traveling there numerous times.
Shirley is survived by her husband Bill, her four sons Greg, Sean, Bill jr., and Joseph; her Grandson Kyle; her Grand Daughters (Natural and "adopted"),, Ashleigh, Kayla, Journie, and Hannah; her Great Grand Daughters Alea, and Annabelle; and daughter-in-laws Rebecca, Wendy, and Marie.
A memorial to Shirley will be held at El Dorado Funeral & Cremation Services, 1004 Marshall way, Placerville, 6:30 to 9PM Thursday May 25.
Funeral services will be held at St Patrick Church 3109 Sacramento St, Placerville, CA .at 10AM Friday May 26, with Interment afterward at Westwood Hills Memorial Park, Placerville, CA.
